Wofford's offense revolves around running back Eric Breitenstein. Sounds like Frankenstein. And yes, he's a monster runner. He's the third leading rusher in the nation. Said head coach Russ Huesman,"You can't stop the kid for no gain. You just can't do it. I don't know who has done it. Who can do it. If anybody has a secret, let me know." Added linebacker Shane Weatherly,"He's one of the best running backs I've seen in college here. That's talking about South Florida or anybody. He's a really good back." Said Huesman,"I guarantee you. He's as tough as anybody in the NFL."
Wofford is yet another SoCon team that runs the option, and they run it well. Said Huesman,"If you don't tackle, you're dead. If you get out of your gaps, you are dead. If you don't come off blocks, you are dead. So they put a lot of pressure on you." Said Weatherly,"It's a lot faster game. Everything is sideline to sideline. You've got to be ready to run. That's the kind of game linebackers dream about. So hopefully, it'll be a good one this week."
The Terriers offense has exploded against UTC in their last four meetings in Spartanburg. In 2004, Wofford beat the Mocs 56-21. In 2006, it was 55-0. In 2008, it was 56-7. And in 2010, it was 48-14. Wofford's ball control offense will even put pressure on the Mocs offense. Said offensive lineman Adam Miller,"Triple option. We are going to have less plays on our offense. We just know that each play means even more. You can't have three and outs."
But Wofford is pretty good at forcing three and outs. They lead the SoCon in scoring defense. Said Miller,"You hear about their great offense. Sometimes their defense doesn't get talked about, but they're a very good defense too."
