Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Chattanooga Mocs are in first place in the Southern Conference standings heading into their final league game of the year. And UTC doesn't want any company atop the league standings when they leave Samford on Saturday.
With their win over 15th ranked Wofford, UTC clinched a share of the SoCon title for the first time in almost thirty years.
Said kicker Nick Pollard,"Felt like a great weight was lifted off of our shoulders. To see the seniors and see their reactions and how it felt. You feel relieved."
With a  share of the league crown, UTC players will get a SoCon Championship ring.
Said quarterback Jacob Huesman,"When I was younger I was like, rings? I don't want to wear rings. But now that you are playing for one, it's like I've got to get a ring. Got to."
But rings are not on the mind of head coach Russ Huesman.
"Me personally, it just doesn't feel like we have won anything yet."
That's because UTC needs to beat Samford to clinch the SoCon title outright, and claim an automatic bid to the playoffs.
Said linebacker Gunner Miller"As soon as we got in the locker room, the first thing we said was, do you want to share it? I don't think anybody said yes. So we are going to go out and try to win this championship for ourselves, and I think we deserve that. That's the number one goal right now."
Said defensive back Dee Virgin,"I follow the seniors like Chaz Moore, Kadeem Wise, and Wes Dothard. Those guys want it bad. When I say they want it bad, they want it bad man."
Added Jacob Huesman,"We want to look back at 2013 and say yeah, Chattanooga won it outright."
