The Chattanooga Mocs held their first scrimmage of the fall this afternoon at Finley Stadium. Despite a couple of nice scoring drives by the first team offense led by Jacob Huesman. It was a good thing the scrimmage was only a dress rehearsal.
Mocs coaches were not happy as the team struggled to get lined up in the proper positions.
Jacob Huesman finished 13-20 for 137 yards, including a 37 yard scoring strike to Xavier Borishade and another TD toss to Faysal Shafaat. Beyond that, the Mocs offense was stymied the rest of the way, with Huesman running for his life from the Mocs star-studded defensive line.
Derrick Lott led the way with two sacks for the Mocs D.
While Huesman the quarterback took up for his offensive line, Huesman the coach says there is still more work to be done.
"People are too hard on our offensive line. I'm going to defend our offensive line. People are hard on our offensive line because they see practice and they see them going against All-Americans on defense. I think once we start playing those other teams, people are going to say that offensive line is actually pretty good," noted quarterback Jacob Huesman.
"It's a combination of both. We've got to protect better, and I don't care who is rushing the passer. We've got to stand our ground and we've got to build a wall there. We do have to get better but partly we've got some guys that can rush the passer," added head coach Russ Huesman.
