The Mocs have been trying to climb to the top of the SoCon standings since Russ Huesman arrived. And now they can get there, if they win their final two games. Said Huesman,"That's our number one goal. To win the Southern Conference Championship. We talk about it throughout the season." Said offensive lineman Adam Miller,"Just the strides we have made here at Chattanooga since I've been here. It has brought us into that championship-type atmosphere."
Chattanooga can only share the conference crown if they win out, so would they get championship rings? Said Huesman,"Yeah. If we win, we are Southern Conference Champions. I don't care if 8 teams tie for it." (laughter) "It won't be in the press guide we tied with whoever. I mean, we are Southern Conference champs. If we win obviously."
The SoCon championship goes through the Big Three. Georgia Southern, Wofford, and App State. GSU and App have already beaten the Mocs. Now UTC will try to get past Wofford. Said linebacker Shane Weatherly,"We want to be held in the same conversation as them. To do that, you have to beat them."
Reporter-"You want to be the Big Four now?" Said Weatherly,"Oh yeah. Or we could make it the Big One if we wanted to. We could just be at the top. That would be nice too." Said Miller,"We want to be known as Chattanooga is here, and just kind of end the season on a great note after we started kind of slow."
To drum up support for Saturday's showdown, UTC is offering students a free bus ride and a free ticket to Spartanburg. Said Weatherly,"Hopefully they'll take advantage of it. I'd go for free." (laughter)
