With UTC coming off their first twenty loss season in school history, Shulman sounds as if he could pen a country song. Said Shulman,"I have a tough time remembering the good times. And I can't forget the bad times."
But Shulman is doing his best to forget last year's 11-21 record. "I think we've got a completely fresh basketball team. Completely opposite of last year. I'm not saying anything bad about last year, but we just couldn't finish games."
Completely fresh as in five new freshmen. Shulman raved about his new recruits including guard Farad Cobb, wing Casey Jones, and guard Gee McGhee.
"Casey Jones came here weighing 175 pounds. He's 194 pounds now. Someone saw Farad Cobb play and said best point guard to be around here in ten years. Gee McGhee. That's one tough guy. That's a tough guy. He don't care. He's nasty."
On top of the new kids, there's also a new assistant in former Moc guard Casey Long. Reporter-"What has he added or brought to the team?" Said Shulman,"A smile. Positivity every single moment." Reporter-"Does he kind of help balance you then?"(Laughter) Said Shulman,"That was a good question. I don't like the answer. My answer is probably."
Kidding aside, Shulman tried to build team chemistry over the summer with a wild boot camp."We went from pushing football sleds on the football field at 6:15 in the morning. To running up Lindsey Street at five o'clock in the morning. To pushing golf carts around campus at nine o'clock at night. There were a lot of people out of their apartments watching, going what are ya'll doing? I said, we are men's basketball come on down. Come on down and watch. Get involved. So it was a lot of fun."
