UTC quarterback Jacob Huesman was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced today. Huesman had a career-high 170 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in the Mocs triple-overtime loss to No. 2 Georgia Southern on Saturday.

This is the second time in three weeks Huesman (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has earned the freshman honor from the SoCon. He also threw for 102 yards and a touchdown on 11-20 passing. Add in a 16-yard reception and he totaled 288 yards of total offense in the game. It was also the second time this season Huesman posted 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing.

Huesman's 170 rushing yards are the second most in a game by a freshman in UTC history. James Roberts set the rookie mark with 202 against ETSU on Oct. 14, 1989. It is also the most by any Chattanooga ball carrier since Bryan Fitzgerald had 181 yards at Presbyterian on Sept. 19, 2009.

Huesman currently leads the Mocs and all SoCon freshmen in rushing with 74.6 yards per game. He is also No. 4 in the league and tops among SoCon frosh with 217.2 yards of total offense per game.

Huesman is climbing the Mocs' all-time freshman list in most of the offensive categories. He holds the UTC freshman record for completions (118), is second in passing touchdowns (10) and rushing attempts (138), and is third in passing attempts (179) and passing yards (1,142).
