University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Jacob Huesman was named the Southern Conference Football Freshman of the Week by the league office today. Huesman led UTC to a 31-10 win at Furman on Saturday, upping the Mocs' record to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Huesman, a quarterback from Chattanooga, actually started at receiver where he caught three passes for 32 yards. He played most of his snaps under center and was 18-23 passing for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

Huesman found Terrell Robinson on a 38-yard touchdown to give the Mocs a 10-7 lead going into halftime. He hooked up with Robinson again from 14 yards out to put UTC up 17-7 in the middle of the third quarter. Huesman also carried the ball 22 times for 59 yards in the win.

Huesman was also named to the College Sporting News National All-Star Team for his play last weekend.

For the year, Huesman is completing 66% of his passes (88-134) and has eight touchdowns against three interceptions. His eight TD throws are No. 2 on the Mocs' all-time freshman list while his 88 completions are third all-time among Chattanooga rookies.

Huesman is the second Moc to earn a player of the week award from the SoCon this season. Junior DB Kadeem Wise was the Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1.

UTC hosts Samford in the Southern Rail Rivalry series this weekend. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at Finley Stadium on Saturday,
