KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee defensive back JaRon Toney is leaving the team.
Volunteers coach Butch Jones confirmed via text message Wednesday that Toney is graduating this summer and wouldn't be playing for the team this fall. The news was first reported by the Knoxville News-Sentinel.
Toney made 10 starts for Tennessee over the last two seasons while playing primarily in nickel and dime situations. He made 79 career tackles and had one year of eligibility remaining.
After joining the team as a tailback, Toney moved to the secondary and had 42 tackles while making four starts in 2012.
Toney started six games at nickelback last season and made 37 tackles to rank seventh on the team. He was tied for second on the team with six special-teams tackles.
