Vols Kickoff November With Another Ranked Team in Missouri
Tennessee just completed a brutal month of games in October against ranked teams. But it doesn't exactly get any easier in November. The Vols kick off the month this weekend with a trip to tenth-ranked Missouri.
While Missouri stumbled in their first season in the SEC, Vols coach Butch Jones says the Tigers look like an SEC team this season. "They're tough. They're physical. And they have great team speed. It make it exceptionally challenging."
But will the Tigers be mentally tough? They're coming off their first loss of the season to South Carolina. Said Missouri receiver L'Damian Washington,"You don't want the South Carolina loss affecting us two weeks in-a-row. So we just want to leave it where it was Saturday and move on to Tennessee." Added quarterback Maty Mauk,"It's hard when you are doing so good, and you turn around and you lose a close game like that. I know just looking at our guys, they're focused, and ready to bounce back." Said head coach Gary Pinkel,"You've got to be the most fired up football player with the opportunities and options we have in front of us. But we've got to take care of our business."
Butch Jones is familiar with Tigers QB Maty Mauk because he recruited him in high school. "Maty Mauk is a winner. He's the son of a football coach, so he's a gym rat. He grew up with a football in his hands since the day he was born."
Nothing makes a quarterback look good like good receivers, and Mizzou may have the biggest receiving corps in the SEC. "It causes you match-up problems. They can play the ball exceptionally well in the air. I know Maty is going to do a great job of getting them the ball. We have to go up and play the ball at its highest point."
