Hixson Strives to Meet High Expectations
Hixson-(WDEF) In his first season at Hixson last year, head coach Jason Fitzgerald got the Wildcats back in the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Now Hixson is picked to win their district. Said Fitzgerald,"There are a lot of good football teams in our region. Like I said, that prediction in on paper. We'll see what happens when the season starts."
Fitzgerald has certainly changed the atmosphere around the Hixson program. "It's different out here. I've got to make sure there's not overconfidence. You want to be confident. There's a difference between confidence and cocky. We've got to be confident when we take the field. If we're the other way, then we are going to be in some big trouble." Said running back Kedrick Bradley,"We just work hard every day. That's how we did it last year. That's how we are going to do it this year. Got to work harder though. They know about us now." Added receiver Allen Diac,"I think we are more excited, but we still have to play harder because now we are number one." Said Fitzgerald,"We always talk about being a champion is not easy. It's not an easy thing. When you get tired, you've got to push yourself a little harder. They haven't been used to that, so we are having to push them a little harder to show them what it takes to be a champion."
The Wildcats should be able to handle an extra push, they've got 22 seniors. Said Diac,"A lot of us have been together since sixth grade. I mean we know what it takes to win. It's good to have all those seniors." Added Fitzgerald,"We've got 7 or 8 back on offense, and 7 or 8 back on defense, so nothing will be to new to them when the lights come on on Friday nights."
