Jasper, TN-(WDEF) The season before Mac McCurry arrived at Marion County, the Warriors lost nine games. In McCurry's first season as head coach last year, the Warriors won nine games. Said McCurry,"A head coach or coach in general doesn't change a football program that was down like Marion was. An attitude does. That's one of the things that we work hard on. Just trying to encourage young men to have a good, positive, mental attitude." Said lineman Hayden Tudors,"Yes sir. No sir. Make sure everything is about discipline."

Marion County's discipline and attitude was tested right away in their opener last year against Grundy County when they trailed by two touchdowns at the half. Said running back Hamilton Shoemaker,"He(McCurry) said a little bit. Then he told us smile and say cheese." Added McCurry,"We came back and won by a point, luckily." Reporter-"So smile and say cheese is the secret to life?" Said McCurry,"Smile. Say cheese. And work harder."

Coach McCurry is smiling a lot more when he looks at this year's defensive front. "We replaced a couple of outstanding, hard working young defensive ends last year. One of them weighed 158, and the other one weighed 175. We replaced them with one that weighs 285, and one that weighs about 255."

Brothers Matt and Blake Zemen were a big one-two punch last year. Matt was the quarterback and Blake was the running back. Matt is now gone, but the Warriors can still smile and say Zemen. Said McCurry,"But Matt has graduated. We have replaced him with Hunter Zemen. Matt and Blake's little brother." Reporter-"How many Zemen's are there?" Said McCurry,"I think Hunter will be the fourth of four."
