Signal Mountain, TN (WDEF)  With Reese Phillips under center last year, Signal Mountain had two games where they scored more than 60-points. Unfortunately, the Eagles also had two games where their defense gave up more than 50-points. But it appears Signal will be tougher along the defensive front this season. Said offensive lineman Colin Rich,"Our defense has stepped it up a whole lot. Our front four are huge."

Said running back Diamez Franklin,"Monsters. Unstoppable. They go all out." Said defensive back Ryan Claxton,"Our defense has been more intense. We have gotten a whole lot better. We're a lot more physical." Said head coach Bill Price,"We want to get better, especially on the defensive side of the ball. We've been giving up way too many points. We've outscored people. This year we are going to be a more blue-collar football team."

Jack Teter will replace Phillips at quarterback, and his teammates like his development. Said fullback James McClellan,"We have a young quarterback. At the beginning of 7-on-7 games, he was making a few mistakes, but at the end, he started making all of his passes." Said Price,"You know what, Jack's not Reese. He has got to play within his abilities. He's getting better every day. His main focus is not making big mistakes."

Teter’s hardest job might be deciding who to give the ball to. Coach Price says the Eagles will rotate nine backs. "I think it takes the pressure off the quarterback. We're a play-action team. We're not going to spread you out. A quarterback has got to take care of the running game. Not make mistakes. Not fumble snaps. Then when we have the opportunity to throw the ball down the field, he needs to make that throw."
