Tennessee basketball coach Donnie Tyndall announced Friday that 6-10, 290-pound forward Dominic Woodson (first name pronounced: dah-mihn-EEK) is enrolled at UT and has joined the Volunteers program. Woodson's eligibility status for next season has yet to be determined.

When Woodson does become eligible, he will have three seasons left to play.

"Dominic certainly adds some physicality and size to our frontline," Tyndall said. "He has great upside. If he continues to improve his body and conditioning, he'll have a chance to be a very good player at this level."

A native of Round Rock, Texas, Woodson spent last season as a freshman at Memphis, appearing in 20 games with the Tigers.

"First of all, thank you to (head coach Josh Pastner), his staff and the University of Memphis for the great opportunity they gave me," Woodson said. "I'm very excited about my opportunity to be at Tennessee and play for coach Tyndall. I've learned from my mistakes and realize I have a lot of work to do to achieve my goals and dreams. My efforts moving forward will be focused on making my family and all the people who have helped me proud."

Woodson averaged 2.5 points and 1.9 rebounds while shooting .423 from the floor and playing 6.8 minutes per game last season. In a road game at SMU, he pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds.

Off the court, he was named to the Tiger 3.0 Club for the 2013 fall semester.

As a senior prep standout at West Virginia's Huntington Prep in 2012-13, Woodson was rated as a top-100 prospect by Rivals.com (No. 80), ESPN.com (No. 90) and Scout.com (No.99). He helped lead Huntington to a 30-3 record and a No. 7 ranking in the final 2012-13 USA Today Super 25 Boys Basketball Poll.

The addition of Woodson to the Tennessee roster gives the Vols a program-record eight scholarship newcomers for the 2014-15 campaign.
