Auburn fans mobbed Bruce Pearl as soon as he got off the plane at the Auburn airport.
The cheering rolled on as the former Tennessee coach left the airport.
And it revved up again at his introductory press conference.
Said Pearl,"War Eagle! That feels so good! And Welcome to the Jungle!"
Pearl got a six year deal worth over $2-million-dollars a year.
He'll try to revive a program that has only eight NCAA tournament appearances in school history.
Said Pearl,"Jay (Jacobs) talked about raising the bar in men's basketball. Have you seen the contract I have signed yet? When you see this number, he raised the bar in men's basketball. I'm just keeping it real okay."
Pearl still can not recruit until late August. That's when he'll finish his three year show-cause penalty for lying to the NCAA at Tennessee.
"When I made the mistakes that I made at Tennessee, I let a lot of people down. I let my family down. I let my University down. I let the people down that believed in me. That's why I still walk around with pain. But I have found this part of the country to be a part of the country that offers grace. And but for the grace of God, I would not be standing here today as your next men's basketball coach, and I am truly grateful."
