Since LFO will have less experience this season, head coach Todd Windham expects more teaching and tough love to get the new guys going."Well, I think you have to be optimistic and be positive, especially with a young bunch. There are going to be days like today. We were real frustrated after our scrimmage last Friday, so you are going to challenge them." Said running back Jacob Gilbert,"Getting us together this week and pushing us to where we need to be by next Friday is very important. We can get there, and with them pushing us, we'll get there eventually." Said Windham,"We've got some guys who we wish were a little farther along. But we knew it was going to be that kind of year. It's how far those untested people can come that's going to be the real factor in our success."
And Windham hopes the team's development will be fast, especially in the trenches. "I think every coach wants to see progression. Now that being said, I want it in week one."(chuckles) Added Gilbert,"The offensive line is going to have to step it up together, and depth is a big issue."
Since the Warriors lost so many players, they'll likely be a bit of an underdog this season. Said Gilbert,"Coach Windham always loves being the underdog, and it's definitely something I like."
The Warriors would love to exceed expectations and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Said Gilbert,"Sometimes the seniors will come in on certain days and be like, State Baby! State baby! We're going to State! Give some of the guys some high fives, and just get excited for this year."
