JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- Lady Mocs seniors Ashlen Dewart and Taylor Hall posted double-doubles to lead Chattanooga to a 68-53 win over Jacksonville State Tuesday night at the Pete Mathews Coliseum. UTC improves to 6-3 overall while JSU falls to 2-7 on the year.

Dewart was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and recorded her first double-double of the year with a season-best 25 points and 10 rebounds. Hall was just shy of a triple-double with 10 points, 11 boards and a career-best eight assists.  Senior Meghan Downes chipped in 10 points with a pair of treys.

Chattanooga built a lead early in the first half and never trailed in the frame. Midway through the period freshman Jasmine Joyner hit a layup to give UTC an 18-7 lead. JSU chipped away to get as close as 23-19 with 5:56 to play on a jumper from Miranda Cantrell. Dewart got three quick baskets to put Chattanooga back up by double figures, 29-19 with 4:02 to go in the first. However, the Gamecocks would outscore UTC 10-3 the remainder of the half to make it 32-29 at the break.

The second half started with four straight points from Jacksonville State giving the Gamecocks a 33-32 lead, its first of the game, less than two minutes into the period. Over the next five minutes the lead changed hands eight times before Chattanooga got buckets from Dewart, Hall and sophomore Alicia Payne to put UTC up 46-41 with 11:34 to play.

Chattanooga took advantage of stagnant field goal shooting by the Gamecocks who went 0-for-8 from the floor but made 6-of-7 from the free throw line. UTC outscored Jacksonville State 19-6 over the next eight minutes to give Chattanooga its largest lead of the game, 63-47, with 3:10 to play.

All 13 available Chattanooga players saw playing time Tuesday night with freshman Aryanna Gilbert getting her first career start. She took full advantage of the situation giving UTC its first four points of the game while adding three assists and two steals.

Chattanooga outscored JSU in the paint 46-19 and had 12 second chance points from 10 offensive boards. UTC outrebounded the Gamecocks 40-28 while its bench recorded 27 points compared to three from Jacksonville State.

Chattanooga will open Southern Conference play this weekend on the road with a Saturday contest at UNCG and a Monday tilt at Elon.
