Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Lady Mocs softball team opens their new season one week from Friday in Orlando.
Chattanooga is trying to bounce back from their first losing record in the SoCon in 20 years.
After going 20-2 in the SoCon in 2012, the Lady Mocs fell below .500 last year with a 10-11 conference record.
Said infielder Sarah Beth Roberts,"I think we all want to get over last year and everyone just do better than they did last year."
Said outfielder Sam Taylor,"I'm ready to prove people wrong. And we are chasing that ring this year."
Said pitcher Taylor Deason,"We're just leaving the past where it is. This is a whole new team. We have a whole different attitude. We have tunnel vision."
To try and maintain that tunnel vision, the team has new slogans every week.
Said Taylor,"Each week we draw a slogan. We have a couple like 'No Fear'. Coach Reed actually made one that says 'Mocs Fly Together'. He drew an airplane. It's kind of like a slogan of how we always stick together."
Said Roberts,"Ours was 'Swagger' because we always want to walk on the field with some swag. To have that mentality."
Coach Reed would love to see junior pitcher Taylor Deason get some swag.
"Taylor won 20 plus games her first year, but only won 16 last year. We sat down and talked about that. What's the difference in your sophomore and freshman year."
Said Deason,"Honestly, I think I let the pressure get to me last year. The pressure of the team. Rachel (Albritton) got hurt. Then we just had Kaisey Carson, so the pitching staff was low and I let the pressure get to me too much."
  Chickamauga's Sam Taylor is a pre-season All-SoCon selection.
She's growing into her centerfield position after switching from second baseman
last season.
"It was a little shaky at first, but I settled in. I was comfortable by the end of the season. I would like to call it my home now."
