Mac Bryan takes over Ooltewah this season after serving as the offensive coordinator last year at UT Martin. But Bryan is not sweating the transition from college to high school. "Well I've been in high school before a couple of other times. It's a different age group. Little different approach the way you have to take on some things. Little more hands on."
Bryan is bringing the up-tempo spread offense to the Owls. "We want to play fast and get the ball snapped. Try to increase the amount of reps during the course of the game."
And the fast pace is just what quarterback Brody Binder loves. "I was happy. I like to sling it around. Throw the ball. Get it in these fast guys hands, and let them do the work." Said Bryan,"He's really done a nice job of picking up what we are trying to do. Has developed a good patience with the football. Making some smart decisions. Learning how to throw the ball away at times. The arm strength is extremely good."
Binder has the strong arm, and running back Desmond Pittman has the strong legs. Said Bryan,"He can be as dominant a back as anybody around. He's about 240-pounds. He is hard to catch, and when you catch him, sometimes you don't want to catch him."
And it almost sounds like the Owls will run a spread defense too. Said defensive back Tyson Sylvester,"We like to play fast. We play fast, and everybody needs to be around the ball." Said Bryan,"Well, we're going to try to be attacking on defense. We're in a 4-3 system trying to attack the football and make things happen."
Reporter-"How excited are you for the upcoming season?" Said Sylvester,"I'm very excited because we've got a pretty good team. Ready to show people."
