CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs football squad had its first scrimmage during spring drills on a gorgeous afternoon at Finley Stadium. Head Coach Russ Huesman and his staff put the squad through its paces in a controlled environment.
Terrell Robinson found Troy Dye for 28 yards down the middle of the field for the first score. That play followed a 21-yard run by Keon Williams.
Kendrix Huitt was the star of the next series. He busted loose for a 27-yard scampers. That put the ball on the eight. Marquis Green completed the drive himself running left into the end zone.
Robinson worked his magic. On a third-and-20 at the defense’s 47, he found Tray James streaking down the left sideline. The play went for 37 yards to the 10 setting up Williams. Williams bullied his way for eight yards up the middle and followed with a two-yard plunge into the endzone off left tackle.
Tolerance Shepherd had a big run late in the scrimmage. He was stopped up the middle and broke the play outside the left end for 19 yards to the six yard line. The defense held strong leading to a 20-yard Henrique Ribeiro field goal.
Nick Pollard hit 31 (twice) and 41-yard field goals on the day. Both Pollard and Ribeiro hit field goals in the overtime drill to end the scrimmage.
Defensively, the defensive line was impressive. Stalwarts such as Davis Tull, Wes Dothard, and Kadeem Wise, were allowed very few snaps to get a better look at the depth on that side of the ball.
Dean Haynes had a big hit on Al Thompson on a reverse. Dothard made a good break on the ball to bust up a third-down pass. Muhasibi Wakeel picked up a fumble and would have taken it to the house had the play not been blown dead mid-return.
Statistics were not accumulated due to the controlled nature of the event.
