Mocs Hit Rare 400 Yard Rushing Mark
Chattanooga-(WDEF) Mocs coach Russ Huesman wanted more production out of his running game this season. While UTC didn't get it in week one, they made it up for it in week two against Georgia State.
The Mocs offense looked more like Georgia Southern's on Saturday, racking up 401 yards on the ground. First time UTC has topped the 400 yard rushing plateau in nearly twenty years. Said offensive lineman Patrick Sutton,"It was one of the better moments in my career here. Anytime you rush for 400 yards, you are doing something right."
Leading the charge was Keon Williams, who ran for a career high 147-yards. Said head coach Russ Huesman,"He has been good all camp. When we recruited him that's what we thought he could be. I'm glad for Keon because he's a great kid. Our team loves him." Added Sutton,"It was in the first quarter, but he had a big play where he ran somebody over basically. He got up and was talking a little talk. It gave us something to go off of."
UTC runs the spread, but don't look for UTC to ever go Chip Kelly fast. Huesman was amazed by Kelly's NFL coaching debut last night with the Eagles. "I almost had a heart attack watching that last night. If you don't have a guy calling plays that's as fast and knows it. With Kelly, it's probably just going. He looks some, but I guarantee you it's all in his head. He's just shooting them (plays) out there."
Offensive lineman Patrick Sutton wouldn't mind turning up the pace. "Whenever we were at our best on Saturday, we were doing some no-huddle stuff, and getting a little bit up-tempo. So yeah, I would like to go fast."
