Jacob Huesman's 13 yard touchdown run with two minutes to play lifted the Chattanooga Mocs to a 28-24 win over the Citadel. With the win, UTC runs their record to 6-2 for the first time since 1997.
Chattanooga fell behind 10-0 in the first quarter, thanks to a 13 yard touchdown run by Ben Dupree and a 23 yard field goal from Thomas Warren. The Mocs got on the board on the first play of the second quarter on a Kenny Huitt 7 yard scoring jaunt. The Bulldogs answered with a 41 yard scoring toss from Aaron Miller to Jake Stinson. That left UTC trailing 17-7 at the half.
Jacob Huesman and Faysal Shafaat connected on a 4 yard score in the third to cut the lead to 17-14. That was quickly answered by another big play from the Bulldogs, a 61 yard scamper from Dalton Trevino, putting the Citadel up 24-14.
Huesman threw his second scoring strike of the day late in the third quarter, a 33 yard toss to Xavier Borishade to close the margin to 24-21. Chattanooga embarked on their final drive of the day late in the fourth. Huesman carried the ball three consecutive times, culminating in the game winner from 13 yards out. He would finish the day with 256 total yards and three touchdowns.
Chattanooga running back Keon Williams left the game with an ankle injury on the opening kickoff. Marquis Greene carried to load in his absence, rushing 16 times for 90 yards.
The Mocs are back on the road next Saturday to face Appalachian State.
