Mocs senior Steven Fox feels like golf royalty this week at Augusta National. He's playing with the best golfers in the world on one of the best courses in the world. Fox tees off in the Masters this week. He earned an invitation after winning the U.S. Amateur last summer. Said Fox,"About 3 weeks ago is when it sunk in. The Masters crept up. It's like oh boy, now the time has come. I'm just excited to be here really."
Excited and maybe just a little nervous. Said Fox,"I had nerves when I played with Phil (Mickelson) during a practice round. Phil, Keegan (Bradley) and Jason (Dufner). Being the rookie, it was a little nerve racking. I guess the galleries will be different with Tiger playing behind me on Thursday, and playing with Bubba. It's going to be a fun day, and I enjoy playing when there are crowds."
Reporter-"What's some of the best advice you have gotten this week?" Said Fox,
"I'd say Phil. He would show me putts that nobody knows about really, but Phil. His little black book that he has is really phenomenal. All the years he has in there. He kind of showed me around a little bit."
Maybe Phil gave Fox some advice on club selection as well. Said Fox,"I got a special wedge in play that has almost zero degrees bounce. No matter how firm the ground, you can still throw the club under and get it up in the air, which has been helpful. I think my short game out here is definitely going to help me because you're not going to hit 18 greens out here."
Since Fox is still an amateur, he will not be eligible for any prize money at Augusta. And that's not all bad. Said Fox,"It's nice now not having to play for a check every week. Like I said, I'm still under my dad's income, which is nice."
