ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - After a tumultuous offseason, Georgia coach Mark Richt has dismissed any suggestion that he needs to toughen up the way he runs his football program.
Richt said Friday that a small group is responsible for disciplinary issues that plagued the Bulldogs through the spring and summer. He says the vast majority of players are doing things the right way.
Several Georgia players were arrested on charges ranging from illegal check cashing and aggravated assault to, most recently, drunken driving. At least three players were kicked off the team.
While Richt downplayed the disciplinary issues, his players met recently to discuss the problem. Team leaders, including quarterback Hutson Mason, say it's important for everyone to take responsibility when someone gets into trouble.
The Bulldogs held their first preseason practice Friday afternoon.

Peyton Manning is revered by millions of NFL fans but those same enthusiasts who worship at the altar of perhaps the greatest quarterback in league history probably wouldn't want to invite him to their next party.
