Hixson-(WDEF) The Titans caravan rolled into Hixson on Wednesday afternoon. Returner Marc Mariani was a late addition to our local stop, but he didn't mind. When you've been sidelined for nearly a year with an injury, you're ready to help the team in any way possible.

Marc Mariani is in good spirits on the Titans caravan. He's nearing the end of a long rehab process. Back in August in a preseason game against Arizona, Mariani went down with an ugly leg injury. "I had a compound fracture of my left leg. Similar to the one you guys saw on TV a few weeks back with Kevin Ware's deal. I was taped up though, so you didn't get to see my bones. Only I got to see them, which was pretty gruesome."

And yes, Mariani has reached out to the Louisville basketball player. "I just felt for him because it's a long road. The tibia is a brutal bone to break. Obviously a major weight-bearing bone on your body. Not a position you want to be in or a club you want to be in. The Joe Theismann club. But we're all in it now, and if I can pass on anything I will."

Mariani added that Theismann has been a good resource for him. The Titans kick returner says he was finally able to jog in February, and he's working his way back to passing a team physical. "They don't have a time table for me. I just hit the gas. When I can't do something, I quit. When I can keep going, I push through, and then try that the next week."

Mariani feels healthy, but now he wants to feel like a pro athlete again. "Shoot, I'm trying to get back something that took me 25 years to build. It will be good. Before long, I'm going to be running over (linebacker) Colin McCarthy again. Man, it's great."

Shouts McCarthy-"Never gonna happen." (laughter)
