Hoover, AL-(WDEF) Tennessee enjoyed part of the spotlight on day two of SEC media days.
The Vols are hoping for more progress in Butch Jones second season.
At SEC media days, Vols head coach Butch Jones enjoyed mixing it up with the media...until they asked the questions.
Reporter-"Coach, you are the only team in the nation to lose all your starters on the offensive line."
Said Jones,"You guys have to keep reminding me of this."(laughter)
Jones doesn't need to be reminded of how young Tennessee will be up-front and everywhere else on the field.
"With half of our football team going through their first college football season, how can we manage the natural adversities? Can we stay focused on the task at hand?"
Added linebacker Curt Maggitt,"The new guys. I feel like they are going to impact the team and help us out a lot from competition to depth. Just helping out all across the board."
The Vols young guys will have to grow up fast since U- will have one of the toughest schedules in the country.
Said Maggitt,"I look at our schedule as opportunity. Week after week, we have a lot of opportunity. That's one of the perks of playing in the SEC."
Added center Mack Crowder,"We like challenges. I mean that's why we came to the SEC. We want the best competition we could possibly have."
Tennessee has endured four straight losing seasons, and they have a two game losing skid to Vanderbilt.
Reporter-"Over the last few years, Vanderbilt has gotten a lot of play in the state and closed the gap with Tennessee. Does it bug you at all? And do you feel like you now have some catching up to do to Vanderbilt?"
Said Maggitt,"Oh no. We are not worried about Vanderbilt right now."
Reporter-"Just one follow-up, you started smiling as soon as I brought that up, why?"
Said Maggitt,"I like your tie." (laughter)
Reporter-"How much do you hate to hear from the so-called experts that you are a year away from competing in the SEC East?"
Said Crowder,"Well, I guess that's their opinion because I feel like we can compete right now."
For now, Coach Jones does not want his team focused on the big picture.
"We have to focus on the process. We can't worry about the end result."
Said linebacker A.J. Johnson,"Our main theme for this whole summer was 'Work to Win'. That's one thing we have been doing. We have been working to win."
