Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Arnott, a veteran of 18 NHL seasons who scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal for New Jersey in 2000, has announced his retirement.

Arnott also played for Edmonton, Dallas, Nashville, Washington and St. Louis, but will always be remembered in New Jersey for his double-overtime goal in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals against Dallas.

"I would like to thank everyone who helped me throughout my NHL career, including my family, friends, teammates and fans," Arnott said in a statement through the NHL Players Association on Tuesday. "Playing in the NHL was my dream, and I am very proud and appreciative of the fact I was able to play at the highest level for 19 years, with the best players in the world. Each of the teams I played for provided me with great experiences and memories, and our Stanley Cup team in New Jersey certainly stands out among all of them."

Arnott spent four seasons in New Jersey and also helped the Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals in the spring of 2001, a seven-game loss to the Colorado Avalanche. He notched 16 goals and 35 points over 46 games during those two postseason runs.

The Ontario native was selected by the Oilers with the seventh overall pick of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and was an All-Rookie selection that season with 33 goals and 68 points. After four-plus seasons in Edmonton, he was shipped to the Devils in January 1998.

New Jersey dealt him to Dallas in March 2002 and he left the Stars for Nashville before the 2006-07 season. He was traded back to the Devils in June 2010 and split the 2010-11 campaign in New Jersey and Washington before playing his final season of 2011-12 with the Blues.

Arnott, a two-time All-Star, compiled 417 goals and 521 assists for 938 points in 1,244 NHL games. He added 32 goals and 73 points in 122 playoff games.
