More than 1,600 museums across the country will offer free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families this summer.

The Blue Star Museums initiative runs from Memorial Day until Labor Day.  The programs includes the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum and Hunter Museum of American Art in the Tennessee Valley, plus the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville.

The program began in 2010 as a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Defense Department.  It's adding 300 new museums this year.  Find a complete list of free museums here.

Also, military families should keep in mind the National Park Service offers free passes to all active duty members and dependents, good for free admission to almost 400 parks.
