"42" certainly isn't the first movie to shoot scenes in our area.  Water For Elephants, Leatherheads, Love Potion #9, The Pete Grey Story, Starman.. you can probably name some more.
But I'm going way back into the Archives for another Chattanooga movie moment.
It's the summer of 1980.  And movie producers are looking for locales to show some good southern redneck culture.
They found it on Rossville Boulevard at the Rebel Drive in and Robbie's Cafe.
They want to tell the heart-warming story of 2 rambunctious siblings, heading to Nashville to become stars.
It stars a young Dennis Quaid and TV teen queen Kristy McNichol.  Oh yeah, there's this Mark Hamill guy trying to live down his Star Wars character.
First, take a look at the trailer to see what high quality art we're talking about here.

I've combined two stories here about the movie coming to town.
The first one is the announcement in July of 1980.   I love how hey dance around the subject matter of the movie... what's the phrase "it will deal with the contemporary youth of today."
Then we move on to the day they start shooting in August.  You'll notice that Quaid's truck in the movie trailer puts in an appearance at the end of this story.  A viewer tells us the production got it from a local family.

And it just goes to show you, with all the drama that still goes on down at the Boulevard, it's nothing like the old days.

Hey, try to pick out the scenes from the trailer that were shot in our area.  Let us know on the WDEF News 12 Facebook page or email me at wparker@wdef.com
