Nathan Deal Responds To Criticisma in Governor's Race
Submitted by WDEF on October 7, 2009 - 6:15pm. News | Catoosa County News | Chattooga County News | Dade County News | Murray County News | Walker County News | Whitfield County News The glare of the political spotlight forces north Georgia congressman Nathan Deal to backtrack on a couple of fronts.
Deal is running for the Republican nomination next year for governor.
After weeks of Atlanta Constitution articles reporting on his business connection with the state.. Deal is getting out of the business.
He and a business partner had a contract to inspect rebuilt salvaged vehicles for the department of revenue.
They made 30-thousand dollars over the last 20 years.
The paper reported that Deal personally lobbied to keep the program going.
Deal says he did nothing wrong.. But he won't re-apply for it again.
And on another front.. The candidate is apologizing for using the term "ghetto grandmothers" in a speech this weekend about illegal immigration.
Two of his rival republican campaigns were passing around videos of the speech.
