Do you think the courts will continue to uphold the right to bear arms over the next 50 years?
And another thing . . . What
And another thing . . .
What an outrageous premise for a web question in the first place!!!! How about - How many more years will we have the freedom of speech? How many more years will we use this antiquated document called the Constitution?
They way this country is going, and they way our increasingly dumbed down so-called "graduates" are thinking and talking these days, perhaps our country is destined for total collapse in the very near future anyway.
But until such time as that - I'd prefer to continue to live and have our country governed based on the documents and precepts that have worked so well these past couple hundred years. If we weren't the greatest country in the history of the world, it might be a good time to scrap the whole thing and start over, but otherwise . . . let's not fix what ain't broke.
What do you think helps guarantee the freedom of speech in the first place?
right to bear arms and guns
Guns are obsolete just like the bow and arrow.
We continue because of legalities of war to use guns. High Power fiber lasers and other weapons such as ADS are much more effective and leave little or no residue of what happened. Hypersonic weapons will change the way we fight because an army than can not hear is no longer useful to the commander. If we take the lawyers out of the battlefield and fight to end a war quickly and surgically we will better off. We need to stop fightining on the enemies rule. We need to turn the technology on and destroy the enemies.
and who are the enemies?
Do yo actually believe the lies of the bush administration that nearly everyone in the world is our enemy? If we could stop being the biggest bully on the block we would have no enemies. Whatever happened to the times, (which I can remember), when the good old U.S.A was everones friend? The America I used to know was loved and respected worldwide. Now look at us. They lied about 'nam, they lied about Iraq, and now they're lying about Iran. Isreal is the most dangerous one out there right now, and the wankers in the regime are busy kissing their butts. Why in the h**l are we sucking up to Isreal when they are guilty of more genocide than anyone? And why do so many of the idiot king georges appointees have dual citizenship, (Isreal and U.S.), when you can not possibly have loyalties to Isreal and serve the best interests of America? And, oh, by the way, my bow is not obsolete. I hunt with my state of the art compound bow, (which can drive a shaft through a car door at 25 yards), more than I use my guns, (which are mainly for home defense, and I dare any fascist a**h*le to try to take them from me). Now THAT is American!
The only people affected by
The only people affected by the passing of laws are those who abide by them. Criminals will find a way to obtain weapons regardless of what laws are in place. To think that gun control will lower crime isn't sensible. All you have to do to find evidence of this is look at countries with gun control like the Australia and the U.K. and see if there are any crimes involving weapons going on there.
It all boils down to personal responsibility folks. It's kind of like blaming Budweiser for a drunk driver or Hershey's for weight gain.
well, gee,
I was going to file a lawsuit against colt because I accidently blew my big toe off with one of their guns that I had stolen from somebodys house during a burglary, oh, and I was going to sue the homeowner for allowing me to break in and rob them while they were gone, and, I cut my finger on the broken glass from their gun cabinet, but, now you've made me feel kind of stupid, and now I have a guilty conscience, so, I am going to sue you too.
Fire arms
I think taking away the right to bear arms only takes the rights of the innocent and leaves them vulnerable to criminals, thieves, thugs, and gangs. You can argue all you want, but if criminals know that NO ONE is legally allowed fire arms then crime will go up in our already going "downhill quickly" United States of America. The United States is already giving up all that it "stands for" and "stood on" to groups and organizations who are offended by certain things. When all your rights are gone they will be gone for good. When we are a 2nd or 3rd world country some day, then it will be to late to fix the mess the USA has created and allowed. We seem to give into groups, organizations, and minorities instead of doing what is right. We in the USA don't want to offend anyone or their group so we have given into their belief. The country and our economy is severely lacking due to this war and supporting illegal immigration and their many children born here. Wake up America, our country is going to *ell in a nut shell. People need to stand up for their rights and stop letting the things that are going on in America continue. Right is right and wrong is wrong, but if you have a group or organization you can do what you want whether it is right or justified. WAKE UP AMERICA!
amen!
another true American has spoken. Carry on!
ALL I HAVE TO SAY....
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS YOU CAN HAVE MY GUN WHEN YOU PRY IT FROM MY COLD, DEAD FINGERS.... LEGAL OR NOT.....
This is the spirit that America was built on!
I get so proud when I see true Americans who are willing to stand up to all comers, damn the consequences. That is exactly the kind of people who were willing to buck the system, and place their own lives in jeopardy for what they believed in, FREEDOM for all. Stand proud, American, for I've got your back!
Now, this is a true American!
I am so proud to see that there are still real Americans like you. Sir, I commend you!
amen!!!!!!!
carry on!
bear arms
I don't want to sound mean but, we have too many people that are far right and want to take away all our rights. Like taking GOD away from us.
Its the minority thats shouts louder than the majority that the media and courts listen to, what ever happened to common sence?
Mixed it up
The right and FAR RIGHT is for the rights of Americans to have guns and GOD.
The right (Repulicans) have been for the right to bear arms, "under God" in the pledge, death penalty, etc.
It the left, esp far left that is against guns, mention of God outside the home or church, what is yours is everybodies so cough it over, ect.If you make a dollar and uneducated don't keep 50 cents and give the rest to them (pay them for under achieving)
It is the far left that is against it. I think you got the message correct but the characters wrong.
FREEDOM
They are taking everything away from us now. It will not be long before we lose the right to bear arms. This country was founded on God and freedom, and they've taking God out of it already. Freedom will follow.
hope springs eternal
I don't know, but I certainly can hope! All three branches have failed us miserably so far, the most recent being the judicial. Maybe we will see a resurgence of patriotism in government and not the reversed false patriotism we now see.
Very few people who set out
Very few people who set out to commit a crime do so with the intent to also commit murder. What personal gun ownership does is make the criminal assume that everyone has a gun. Now, we have seen that this assumption has not stopped crime, so let’s look at the converse. If the criminal assumes that no one has a gun, there will not be a need to use a gun, so the overall chance of violence associated with a crime is lower. Furthermore, in assuming that only the criminals have guns, the criminal attempting the robbery knows that if the person he is trying to rob does have a gun, he will be more likely to use it. Compare this to the arms race with the Soviet Union. If homeowners own guns, then criminals will carry shotguns. If the criminals get shotguns, then the homeowners get assault rifles. If the homeowners get assault rifles, the criminals get Kevlar; the increase continues ad infinitum. Why force the cycle to move upward when we can get it to move downward?
You obviously flunked sociology!
The opposite effect holds true, because, you see, the average criminal, gang banger, etc are cowards, and will not willingly face the threat of armed resistance.
Do your homework before you try to sell that commie logic.
If that is true
Then why in cities where it is REQUIRED for everyone town and CARRY a gun is there 0% crime rate?
thank you!!!
as evidence, Kennesaw, GA. Crime rate 0
Removal of Rights
It sounds to me that the view of the world you hold is very skewed. It is more likely that the criminals you speak of would think, "Now I am the only one with a gun!" It is not the guns or the bullet that kills people, it is the individual holding it with either a power trip or various other reasons without gun safety education. Why should the government take away our rights to protect ourselves? Truly, if the criminal wants to harm you they will do so whenever, however and with whatever they want. Following your train of thought, what's next? Take away all kitchen knives too?
yes, and
The fascists, oops, I mean authorities also need to take away baseball bats, and cars, and bicycles, and cigarette lighters, and all consumer medicines, and belts, and toothpicks, and shellfish, and electricity, and gas, and rocks, because they can all be dangerous, even fatal under the right conditions, and, oh, yes, toilet paper, because we might stuff a bunch of it in someones mouth and make them choke, and, well, I think you get the idea. He who would give up even one of his rights for security, deserves none of them.
gun control
this is left wing, worst case senario, idealism. the fact is that the cities with the strongest gun laws already have the highest crime rates, those with right to protect & carry have the lowest crime rates, a criminal is less likely to commit a crime if he thinks he may be shot, just ask the people in prison. every human has a right to protect himself & his family. mall parking lots during the christmas shopping season are outrageous
A: There are no cities where
A: There are no cities where it is required for everyone to carry a gun
B: Countries with stronger anti-gun laws do have less crime. Just look at Canada and many places in Europe.
C: Kitchen knives are quite different from guns.
I don’t want a bunch of crazy rednecks carrying guns, and I don’t want people to get them as soon as they turn 18 because it is the cool thing to do. I want a police force that actually keeps us safe and to not have to depend on personal ownership of a deadly weapon. I don’t live my life in fear of the hypothetical attacker and I think even if I did, a gun would be the worst thing I could have because I would be more likely to use it on my family or someone I love by accident. “A gun kept in the home is 22 times more likely to be used in an unintentional shooting (4 times), a criminal assault or homicide (7 times), or an attempted or completed suicide (11 times) than to be used to injure or kill in self-defense.” And just so you know, every time you say, “If you outlaw guns, only the criminals will have guns,” where do you think they are getting the guns in the first place? They are stealing the guns you fight so hard to keep in your home. So really, if you own a gun, you are much more likely to provide a gun to a criminal than if you don’t. One more statistic, the unintentional firearm-related death rate for children 0-14 years is 9 times higher in America than in the 25 other high-income industrialized countries with a population over one million combined. But, no, keep telling me gun control doesn’t work. It’s quite funny to see such idiocy.
well, well, well, who is the idiot here.
Your numbers are seriously flawed. What Ivory tower do you live in? You sound like a good sheeple. The problems you do cite with some degree of accuracy could be easily remedied with a little thing we like to call EDUCATION! Maybe you should try it sometime before you run your big commie mouth. As for myself and my people, who all shoot very well by age eight, girls and boys alike, and aren't afraid to defend our homes and our land, we will carry on as we have for generations, regardless of whiners and victims like you.
Spreading Incorrect Info
You are absolutely incorrect. Ever heard of Kennesaw, Georgia? "Several Kennesaw officials attribute a drop in crime in the city over the past two decades to a law that requires residents to have a gun in the house." In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed a law REQUIRING heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition. The ordinance states the gun law is needed to "protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants." In fact, it caused the crime rate in the city to plunge. Kennesaw Historical Society president Robert Jones said following the law's passage, the crime rate dropped 89 percent in the city, compared to the modest 10 percent drop statewide. Kennesaw Police Chief Dwaine Wilson said no one has ever been prosecuted under the ordinance. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself - http://www.rense.com/general9/gunlaw.htm. It is public knowledge. Also, Washington D.C. has a gun ban and their crime rate is among the highest in the country. Care to explain? If you are going to present facts make sure you are correct, or just kept tellings us falshoods - it is quite funny to see such idiocy.
If that were true,
If that were true, absolutely true, then the law would also require convicted felons to carry guns and I don’t think that any city would do that. Every means every, not just most. But even so, you’ve opened my eyes to the fact that there are far worse places in the world to live that Chattanooga. Thank you for showing me that Kennesaw is even more backwards than here. But seriously, do you think that guns are really the answer? Correlation is not causation. In a city so filled with crazy gun-nut rednecks where a law like this could be passed, of course there isn’t going to be much crime because everyone thinks the same. Everyone is afraid that the boogeyman is going to come in and steal your nascar dvds. All these kinds of laws do is create more fear, not more fellowship towards other people. We should strive for a world where we can live in peace and not need guns. Continuing to force the issue is a step backwards, not a step forwards.
well, sheeple
You are a commie and you should leave our land. How can you be so blind as to say that Kennesaw is a worse place to live when their crime rate is zero? What are you? Stupid? In cities like Kennesaw no-one is afraid because they know that if bad people try to do bad things everyone around them has their back. If you have a problem with the freedoms we enjoy in this country, then, get the h**l out! Maybe if you see how it really is in some of the other countries you seem so fond of, (probably never having actually been there), you will appreciate the RIGHTS we fought so hard to keep right here.
Owning a gun, and keeping it
Owning a gun, and keeping it in your home to protect yourself, your family and your home, is differnet than carrying a gun. You have to pass a class and earn a permit to carry a gun.
Many people, (generally still in, or fresh out of liberally dominated colleges), think and talk the way you do. I've even worked with a couple myself. Interesting how much they changed their tunes when they experienced being robbed at gunpoint themselves.
When you personally know someone whose life was spared by their ownership of a gun, and ability and willingness to use it, the issue takes on a whole new color.
If we rid the world of every single gun, you would probably be the first to be robbed, raped, and beaten to death with a baseball bat, following a lovely evening of chatting with your liberal compatriots about the lovely utopian society you'd finally created.
It's certainly a good thing that you weren't around 232 years ago. Just think how high our taxes on tea would be by now!
RE:Owning a gun, and keeping it + REX 84
high tea taxes, high gas taxes, high property taxes, high vehicle taxes. There are taxes on everything. What can you do without a permit anymore? I dont understand how you can buy property (real estate, vehicles, etc) and think that it's ok to be taxed for it upon initial investment, and then be taxed for it every year you own it till you die! Then whoever ends up with it after you die continues the cycle! How is this right, just, and free? Then you get federally taxed for your income (which is not legal, the 16th ammendment was never voted in) Recently there was an ad in the New York Times offering a $50,000 reward to anyone that could find in the tax codes that you legally had to pay income taxes. Look it up! You are being lied to, and need to educate yourselves elsewhere. If you think we are secure people in the United States of America because we can own a gun, you are probably blinded by all the propaganda that THEY want you to keep a close eye on. We are far from secure. If we were secure, why would we need to wire tap the citizens, and put policemen armed with dogs & machine guns in the subways? There are deceitful things going on higher up than our government! $$$ Anybody ever met an honest politician? I'm not saying that I believe in anything but what our constitution suggest especially the 1st & 2nd ammendment rights. We live in a world where all we have to cling to is our guns. They are the last thread to our freedom that hasnt been cut or subdued. WE are the last place on Earth where you have a right to own a gun (handgun, rifle, shotgun, etc.) legally, and uphold your patriotic duty in doing so! Imperialism didnt end in 1776, or even 1945. Imperialism is still strong today in our uncertain world, and you would be amazed at where it lies predominate. Anybody have any clue to who the richest man in history was? Look it up! Google the richest man in history! Then do a little research as to all the good things his family has done, and been associated with. While you're at it google REX 84, and have a good time figuring all that out.
There are several videos up here www.myspace.com/peeweemoore that you might want to watch all the way through.
Hang on to your guns folks!
-Peewee Moore
Amen!
This person is absolutely right! I would advise everyone to follow the URL's given here, it will open your eyes. Thank you, American, for helping to get the message out there! carry on!
spoken like a true sheeple!
And when the velvet glove comes off the iron fist, and the fascist plans are revealed, it will be too late for willing victims like you. You choose to put your trust in a corrupt government to protect us, (which they will not), while most of us, (the true Americans), choose to take care of our own security. Just don't let me hear any of your whining when they come for YOU. (Besides, I can get meat with my guns, can you get food with your whining liberal crap?)
I’ve lived 25 years on
I’ve lived 25 years on this earth, and I’ve never once thought that owning a gun was something that I should ever have to or want to do. I have had a shotgun pointed at me because I was turning around in someone’s driveway, though. That was special. I wasn’t a threat, but by god I could have been, and we can’t take any chances, now can we? When you treat the outside world with such hostility, it’s no surprise you would want to own a gun. I mean, from your deranged viewpoint, that everyone is out to get you, gun ownership makes sense. But I don’t see it like that. I know there are bad people out there, people who want to kill me for what I own or for no reason at all. But that’s why we have infrastructure for such problems rather than vigilantes. We aren’t living on the wild frontier. We aren’t facing daily attacks from marauding hordes. How about this as a compromise? If you want to own a gun, there should be some rules. Background check, obviously, and testing. But also, at least 2 hours of required range time per week with a minimum acceptable accuracy rating. Also, 6 hours of required police service per week. If it’s so important for you to have a gun for protection, it won’t do you any good if you aren’t in practice. Walk a beat in Eastdale or Glenwood and keep those reflexes sharp and fresh. Also, regular drug tests, as well as vision and hearing checks, and psychological evaluations to prove your sanity is still intact. Then maybe I’ll feel safer with how easy it is to get a gun in America.
what planet are you from/ living on?
By your twisted, fascist logic only the fascists would have guns anyhow. I will bet you that even my six year old granddaughter is more capable of defending her home than you. Maybe you would be happier living in china, or czechoslovakia, or ? where you don't have to worry about pesky things like, oh, the constitution of the United States of America, or the bill of rights. And, contrary to your narrow little view of the real world, yes, this is just like the wild west, and it is up to each of us to defend our own since the authorities can't/won't do it. Law enforcement are either too lazy, or incompetent, or their hands are tied by a legal system that is way beyond broken. I'll tell you what, you walk the beat, then see if you can reason with the bad guys, O.K.? When you grow up, maybe you will understand, (that is if you can bring yourself to admit that you don't friggin' know everything).
But see, that’s exactly
But see, that’s exactly what I worry about. Some country hick who takes offense to the fact that I’m too close to his land, and instead of being reasonable, he tries to shoot me, even though I’m not a threat. You see all strangers as potential threats, not as human beings, and you would be quicker to point a gun at me if I showed up at your door than to give me directions or let me use the phone if my car broke down. It all goes back to everyone living in fear of their fellow man instead of embracing them. I’m not so naïve as to say that there aren’t people who would abuse this good nature, but as long as you treat everyone as your enemy, you will only have enemies. And I just don’t see how you can compare this to a lawless frontier. I’ve never had anyone break into my home and I feel safe there. I live in a nice, upscale neighborhood and worrying about crime has never been an issue. I have an alarm that immediately notifies the police of a break-in, and so far I haven’t needed it, but it’s deterrent enough to have kept me safe all these years. If you live in a bad neighborhood and have to worry about violence, then just blame the republicans for the insane divide between the rich and the poor which is getting wider every day. Poverty creates violence and brings out the worst in humans, especially given that we have the resources to care for every person in this country but we choose not to. And just to answer your question, yes, I would be happier to live in a wonderful utopia like Sweden or the Netherlands. That’s exactly why I’m working on the paperwork now to get my passport and visa in order. Progressive thought, free healthcare and free education through college, plus atheists like me outnumber believers at around 4 to 1. What’s not to love?
perfect fascist sheeple logic
See, this is exactly the type of whining, liberal turd who, when the gestapo come kicking down doors, would rat out his own family members for owning guns, or banned reading materials, then come whining to one of us for protection when they come for him. I, for one, am so glad that you are leaving our country you little rat bas***d.
good riddance!
Glad we'll soon be rid of you.
Well, good riddance!
whining little liberal twats like you are exactly what this country doesn't need more of. Once you find out what it is really like over there, don't come whining back here.
Well, whoop dee doo, and lah tee dah
You live in a "nice upscale neighborhood". Well, you prissy little liberal shell dweller, I live in a city, and cities have criminals. I would only use a firearm in the defense of my family and home, and not, as you incorrectly surmise in your twisted little mind, to confront someone for simply entering my domain. I am perfectly capable of incapacitating an intruder without the use of a firearm if the situation allows, in fact, I get much more satisfaction from hurting a bad person with my bare hands. But, the main issue here, is it not, is the basic human right to own and use a gun, whether to get meat, or to defend my family. As it says in one of my favorite documents, which you may want to read in its entirety, "none of these rights shall be abridged", and that, you whining little wanker, is my main premise. Those of us who are posessed of reasonable intelligence, (unlike you), can discern the difference between a situation which might require the use of deadly physical force, and one which does not. Learn something before you presume to judge me, or my mates. Educate your self as to what the numbers actually have to say about the efficacy of an armed populace before you run your big yap, the facts speak for themselves.
who is more deranged?
you sound like a young, whining little liberal wanker. Maybe, son, just maybe, when you get a few more years under your belt, you can presume to tell me what's what. I have much more than twice your number of years on this planet, and have seen a lot more than you will ever hope to. What, I ask you, is more deranged? to have a gun and not need it, or to need a gun and not have it? You sound more deranged by your vehement sputum, and attacking of anyone who believes in their rights enough to defend them against all comers. Well, the good news is that when they come for our guns, you will have nothing to worry about will you, you commie, (until they come to haul you off to the work camp). One has but to study history to refute any of your fascist arguments. Wake the h**l up. I can show you any number of country boys who know a lot more about gun safety than, and can out shoot any so called expert, (check out how many civilians are "accidently" shot by law enforcement, that is scary). Free America is in danger.
