Chattanooga rapper Zeek da Freek Bledsoe felt the only way he could express his grief was through music after childhood friend Lamunta died earlier this week.
"Dedicated it to him, because I knew him, we were close, I knew him from the community, East Lake you know."
Set Ya Up was written about the temptations and loss of life and Soddy Daisy DJ Jacob Madewell believes music is a way for young people to deal with loss.
"If you are wanting to get your message out, say hey look, i'm depressed, this happened, I think music is the right way, especially if you are a rap artist."
While a shrine has been erected outside 2623 Carr st with flowers and teddy bears, Zeek says his song is his wreath.
"The song is better than a flower or something as it sends a message, you know that song is going to be out there for ever".
UTC professor and clinical counselor Dr Elizabeth O'Brien feels grieving through music is just one way to express loss for younger generations.
"A lot of kids may not know how to express themselves appropriately because the adults around them may not be able to express themselves appropriately but you can have reactions of anger, anxiety, hyper awareness to their environment but also kids shutting down and becoming quieter."
