From inside the Leisure Time Dive and Ski Shop on Brainerd Road, Bill Byles couldn't see the violence that was taking place outside, but he could sure hear it.
Byles adds, "I heard what I thought were gunshots."
Chattanooga Police believe Milton Patrick got into an argument with two men in the Walgreen's parking lot, and when he ran across the street to Rite Aid, he was sprayed with bullets.
It's video that brings back painful memories for Byles.
Byles adds, "About 11 years ago we lost an owner. One of the owners was killed here."
James Lewis, a vietnam veteran, took a bullet to his head.
Byles says, "Guy came in to rob the store and apparently he didn't like the way James moved, and he shot him."
New local businesses, like Chick-fil-a and Ollies Bargain Outlet, were recently brought in to revitalize this area, however, residents are not sure they're doing the trick.
Melinda Blackman, a resident, says, "It's disturbing, very disturbing. It's almost unreal."
This incident on Brainerd Road Thursday evening is the first of three shootings in Chattanooga within six hours.
Just before six p.m., Willie Lansden was shot in the arm on East 49th Street.
A few hours later, police found Anthony Sherard, 22, on Tennessee Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say these incidents are not related in any way.
Blackman adds, "You have to keep your eyes open and be observant."
And that's what Byles says he'll be doing at his store, especially since the warmer weather this weekend is sure to have even more people out about.
All three victims are in stable condition.
No suspects from any of these cases are in custody.
