EAST RIDGE, Tennessee(WDEF) - Police are investigating the gruesome discovery of a body inside a creek at Camp Jordan.

Volunteers with the Tennessee River Rescue were cleaning a creek when found the human skeletal remains around 11:30 A.M. on Saturday.

Criminal investigators have determined that it was human remains in advanced stages of decomposition.

"I don't know if it's a man or a woman. There's not very much that they know other than they're human remains that were found in a log jam down in the creek," said East Ridge Police Corporal Robert Wade.

That creek was one of several bodies of water that was being cleaned by hundreds of volunteers who took part in the annual Tennessee River Rescue event.
