The Dalton Police Department made a big drug bust Thursday night.
Dalton Police Department arrested Bruce Wayne Bailey, Chayne Allen Bailey and Katherine Leighann Wheat for their part in the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine. Bruce Frazier, Dalton Police Public Relations Specialist said, "Bruce Wayne Bailey is Chayne Bailey's father, and there is some indications that they were working together in some ways, but also maybe had their own independent things going on as well."
Dalton Police were set to execute an arrest warrant for Bruce Bailey at his workplace. Shortly before the warrant was executed, a patrol officer pulled over Katherine Wheat in her vehicle and found a meth pipe. During the investigation, they learned there was a meth lab operation at this residence on 900 Vernon Avenue shared by Katherine Wheat and Chayne Bailey. Frazier said, "You could say that it is old school. Its called a red phosporous meth lab, which is what you would think of more if something that you might see on a breaking bad show. A lot of different tubes and wires going between different bottles."
Frazier called the lab a much larger operation, something they haven't seen a lot of in the last five or ten years. Cody Hays, a neighbor, said seeing all the fire crews and hazardous material crews frightened him. Hays said, "Being this close I figured if something were to blow up or something you know we'd probably be in the middle of it."
Bruce Bailey was charged with both selling and possessing meth. Wheat and Chayne Bailey were charged with manufacture and trafficking of meth. The meth lab was dismantled Thursday night, and the investigation will continue to see if anyone else was involved.
