David Crownover says he's never seen anything like it in his peaceful East Ridge neighborhood, a string of burglaries in the South Germantown area.
"Witnesses saw a white vehicle occupied by several black males that had entered at least three homes, these individuals going in kicking doors," says Erik Hopkins, East Ridge Public Safety PIO.
Crownover was a victim of one burglary, losing a safe with forty eight hundred dollars inside.
"Just felt bad about it, started looking around and wasn't too bad really, until they got my safe, it would take two people to load it into the car, so must have been more than one here," Crownover says.
Police continue to work the case as the suspects remain at large.
"Witnesses described two black males late teens, early 20s and possibly a black female that was driving the vehicle. The vehicle and suspects descriptions tied these all together. There were similar stories at each one within a similar geographical area. We have found that vehicle and that vehicle has been impounded and officers were able to retrieve finger prints from the vehicle," Hopkins says.
Officers say they need residents help, not just now but in the future.
"Give us a call let us come out and check it out, even if you are on your way to work or the doctor office you don't need to be present for the police to come out and verify that these people are in the neighborhood for legitimate purposes," Hopkins adds.
"I lock the doors. I lock 'em better. Even use the deadbolt, first time I've ever used a deadbolt. But we never locked our side door, since we lived here, we never locked it in the daytime unless we went out of town. I get a safe it'll be bolted down next time, I know what that ring is for I just never did use it," Crownover says.
