A tiny melted fourwheeler and the skeletons of automobiles are just a few of the sights that nearly take your breath away at the place 17 year old Jennifer Perez and her family called home just last night.
"It's black it's just black and the fire keeps rising, as you can see there's just nothing left. It looks like little bones, you know?" says Perez.
From her four year old brother to her parents, Perez says she's glad each of the 7 people who lived here escaped the blaze safely.
But Friday's driving rain continued to beat down on everything else that couldn't be saved.
Crying, the eldest child of the family says "Everything, everything is just gone."
Perez says her dad woke up to the loud noise of tires popping and noticed the flames in the back yard.
"The flames were really high so you couldn't get out through the back door so we decided to get out through the front door. We had no shoes or anything on so it was really cold and the grass was like burning your feet. It was really bad," she says.
Bruce Garner with the Chattanooga Fire Department says fire investigators believe the blaze began with a car fire.
"The problem in this case of course is that if the fire started with the car, the car was in the carport right next to the house, which compounds the problem, makes it even worse," Garner says.
Perez says her parents who both work other jobs spent most of their extra time and money rebuilding and fixing up this house. She says moving forward she's not sure if, or just how, they'll be able to rebuild again.
"Rebuild? I don't know. They spent a lot of money and a lot of work," says Perez.
But as the family strives to put the pieces of their life back together, but the future is filled with questions.
"We have nothing so we don't know what we're gonna do," she says.
The family was renting to own the house, but did not have any renter's insurance.
