Two year old Sahara Palmer was rushed to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital late Monday night with a traumatic head injury.
According to Sahara's uncle Johnathan Smith the foster family that brought her there left right after she was admitted.
He says the family had to find out what happened from the Department of Children's Services.
"She was unresponsive. Elijah, her older brother was trying to wake her up says she won't wake up she isn't moving and told the foster care people and they decided at that time to come take her to the hospital," Smith says.
The family says doctors did a series of tests and surgeries and told them Sahara is now brain dead, leaving Sahara's mother Jennifer doing what no mother wants to do.
"I have to take her off the machines," Palmer said.
The two children were placed into foster care in February after Jennifer's boyfriend stabbed her and kidnapped the kids.
He is now in jail, but the family says the children's living situation didn't improve.
People that attend church with the foster family say they witnessed signs of abuse.
"The foster mother at the time grabbed hold of the young girl who passed and slammed her up against the wall, made her face the wall, and let her not eat with the rest of the family," said Ricky Feabry.
"We had a little conference at one time and she came in, they were late, and her lip was busted pretty big and there was drippings of blood on her clothing and that's when I noticed something's just not right here," said Kimberly Okwudibonye.
Church members say they reported the incidents to the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department.
Jennifer Palmer says she also reported seeing bruises on Sahara when she would come to visit, but the children remained with the foster family.
"Their supposed to keep babies safe, not put them in harm," Palmer said.
Now the family wants justice served for little Sahara..
"I'd like those who are responsible to have to answer, not just to a judge but to God about it," said Smith.
Our calls to both the Catoosa County Sheriff and the child's case worker have not been returned at this time.
Jennifer says her court date to see if she could regain custody of her children was set for Monday.

My child was taken by these same glory hound idiots for simply not going to a doctor they insisted on instead of one of our choice and now we have been trying to get her back for the past 5 months with no hope ahead.

In answer to wondering why, it's not the mother's fault, it's CPS's fault. They took custody from her. Didn't you see at the end where it said she was trying to regain custody? People think CPS takes kids who have been abused only-- WRONG. CPS takes children in a wide range of circumstances where they should not, because it gets them more federal dollars! They get federal funding for each child they take! That is the truth!

I would like to know Could the family had not taken them kids instead of foster care in the first place maybe this would not have happened I don't know the full story but if I'd been family I'd be dog gone if she would have remained with that family just saying

This foster family is apparently the exception to the rule. Most foster families that I know are very loving and giving people. My heart bleeds for this child, first to be ripped from her biological family for whatever terrible reason, and then to be abused by the foster family too! These people need to be fried!
