CHATTANOOGA, TN, (WDEF)-The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum just announced its spring schedule which it hopes will bring more visitors to the Tennessee Valley.

"It's an experience that everyone can enjoy and sometimes we are introducing new people to railroading and not just young people but it's the older generation too"

New excursions and locations will for the first time in decades take rail fans across the South by steam.

"Trips out of Bristol, Up in to Virginia, lots of trips, lots going on, looking forward to our day out with Thomas in late April and early May"

Just a few miles from the Museum locomotives are being readied.

"Here in East Chattanooga, a team of 20 people are busy maintaining servicing and preparing the locomotives for very busy 2014"

Manager Shane Meador has spent his life maintaining and improving trains that date back to the early 1900's.

"Another thing about them is we can't just pop down to the local steam shop and buy our parts anymore so we have to make everything"

With such a rich rail heritage in The Scenic City Bob Doak of the Chattanooga Visitors Bureau is excited for the new rail excursions into Alabama and Virginia.

"One of the most asked questions when a tourist comes into town is where do I ride the train and that's something that we are continuing to work on and develop, develop those programs, have a train presence and have a train heritage"

The trips kick off in March and will run until June.

The rail museum says they are also open on Saturdays to cope with demand.
