Howard, Tyner, and Brainerd; each high school has the attention of Superintendent Rick Smith.

He met with each principal Monday afternoon to discuss reported shootings outside recent basketball games.

Now, the superintendent is not discussing that meeting right now.

However, the fact that there was one even scheduled is putting a lot of people's minds at ease.

William Jones, a Howard Alumnus, says, "I hope something positive will come out of it, I hope."

Other people offer solutions to what they call, a problem that has the potential to get worse.

Jamar Jones, another Howard Alumnus, adds, "They can up security, see who do what, and what do who."

And the question of metal detectors not installed in schools has been brought up.

Jamar Jones adds, "They don't got a metal detector, they don't got anything, so therefore people are going to do what they're going to do, they're going to express themselves."

Residents say there is a rivalry between the schools, plain and simple.

William Jones says, "I think the new generation of kid, they probably got something to prove or something."

Our records show that the fighting has been going on for at least three years.

Last year, one fight between Howard and Brainerd students even resulted in probation and fines for both teams

And just a few days ago, there was a report that a teenager may have been shot outside another basketball game.

Jamar Jones adds, "It's going to get worse, yeah, it's going to get worse."

William Jones now has one message for the teens causing the controversy.

He adds, "Why would you do this at a game, you got kids there. What if you accidentally hit one of them, you'd be in the paper and serving 25 years, it's wrong."

We will be following this story, and bring you more information on the meeting with the superintendent, when it is available.
