Kassidy Blevins is not exactly sure where her basketball skills came from. "Both of my parents were in the band. So I don't really know."
Her dad didn't think his little girl was cut out for the game. "When I first started playing, my dad didn't want me to play because I was a girly-girl."
But this girly-girl was super competitive. Blevins later blossomed into one of the best players ever at Gordon Lee. Said guard Katie Barger,"When we got in high school, her sophomore year, she just had a break-out year. That's when everyone knew she was definitely going places." Said head coach Lester Galyon,"As far as I know, she's the all-time leading assists leader at Gordon Lee." Said Barger,"If you drop people in on her, then she's going to dish it out to the open person and make plays happen. If you don't close in on her, then she can score on almost anybody." Added Galyon,"She's one of the best I have ever coached. Once she gets you on her hip, it's very hard for the defensive player to recover."
Colleges took notice, and Blevins signed with Samford."When I walked on the campus the first time, I had this peace about it."
And earning a state championship ring before college would also feel good. Said Blevins,"We are so excited. It's a state championship. That's what every high school team in America wants to be in at the end of the year. A state championship."
And you won't believe what else excites Blevins. Said Barger,"She's really into like, really old books. Like Great Expectations and Charles Dickens like that."
Reporter-"Is that true?" Said Blevins,"It's true. I'm sure she told you Great Expectations. That's my favorite book. I love to read. I love English and that kind of thing."
Blevins and company are scheduled to tip at 3pm for the state championship on Thursday.
