CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - A local U.S. Marine is going above and beyond the call of duty to help several less fortunate families.

Daniel Wysong partnered with Alliance Physical Therapy to put together a program called Thanksgiving Hero.
He spent Friday afternoon purchasing groceries for 24 families at a local Walmart. But the program he created did more than purchase food.

"We paid power bills. For people who couldn't make it, we mailed check to them and we tried to take care of as many people as we could but there's still a huge need out there," Wysong said.

He hopes to get police and firefighters involved in the Holiday Hero Program next Thanksgiving.
