It's part of the American tradition that voters rally around the President after an election; whether they voted for him or not.
But this year is a bit different.
Now there are petitions calling for secession.
Just how serious should we take this?
Caitlyn Jones has local reaction.
Signs of patriotism all over downtown, but some people prefer just one of the flags on these polls.
Ashley Marler says, "I think states rights are important and having a voice."
More than 26 thousand Tennesseans have signed a petition to succeed from the United States.
Jeff Morris says he and his dad signed because they didn't like the election outcome.
He says, "Someone posted about the petition and I thought it was interesting and I read up on it. What people thought. And I actually agreed with a lot of them."
For those that haven't signed...
Reporter asks, "Would you sign the petition?" Morgan McCauley says, "I don't think so."
Marler says, "There's parts of me that says yes because sates rights are important but ultimately I think as an American I don't think I could."
Some even find it comical.
Matthew Marshall says, "I think it's just mainly ignorant people that hate Obama for no reason and don't know what they're actually talking about."
McCauley says, "I think that's pretty crazy I mean what are we gonna do if we're not part of the United States? Are we gonna join together? Are we gonna be by ourselves. What's gonna happen"
Corey Pendleton says, "The governments gonna see those signatures. They're gonna simply do what the government's gonna do and deny it."
Take it seriously or not; this petition has reached the signature threshold, and it's going to the White House.

At least 40 other states have similar petitions circulating.
Texas has the most signatures with nearly 100 thousand.
