JASPER, Tennessee(WDEF) - An early morning call about a suspicious man has led to a deputy involved shooting that left one person dead.

According to Marion County Sheriff "Bo" Burnett, the shooting occurred in a wooded area near Lock and Dam Rd.

It all started around 6:17 Saturday morning when someone noticed a suspicious looking man who was on their back porch.

When a deputy arrived he reportedly chased the man into a wooded area where the alleged suspect pointed a gun at the deputy. The deputy reportedly told the man to lower his weapon but the suspect refused. According to the Sheriff, the  deputy fired one shot at the suspect and fatally struck him. The man was then pronounced dead on the scene.

So far, the suspect has not been identified by authorities.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is now investigating the incident.

Sheriff Burnett confirms that there has been burglaries in that area where the suspect was first located but doesn't believe the man was responsible for those particular crimes.
