(WDEF) The seasonal Burn Ban goes into effect Wednesday.
That means you can't burn brush or other yard clippings, or you could face major fines from the Chattanooga Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau.
The seasonal ban was put in place to keep the Chattanooga area in compliance with stricter Environmental Protection Agency air standards back in 1997.
     And officials say: it's working.
Amber Boles with the APCB said, "We've seen a huge difference.  Air quality is getting cleaner and cleaner and they keep tightening the standards.  We actually met the regulation that was formed in 1997, and then they turn around and tighten it again and so we're working to meet that right now, but yes.  Chattanooga's air is the cleanest it has ever been at this point."
Emissions testing on cars is also part of the so-called Early Action Compact formed with the EPA.
