Sequatchie Search Continues
After an almost unbelievable series of events, the Sequatchie County Sheriff's department continues their search for man who fled from deputies.
WDEF News 12's Brittany Shaw joins us with the details...
in our top local story.
Officers are still searching for Jonathan Farley, a Sequatchie County Man who reportedly tried to escape Sheriff's deputies.
They had tried to pull him over on Highway 1-11 yesterday afternoon.
That's where the shocking series of events began.
Sheriff Ronnie Hitchcock says his deputies noticed cars dodging in and out of the lanes.
Hitchcock says that's when the deputy saw Jonathan Farley going the wrong way on Highway 1-11... Holding his toddler son as he drove.
"The driver of the vehicle had a little two and a half or three year old boy sitting in his lap. He turned around on him and turned the lights on. He fled from him.">
Sheriff Hitchcock says Farley sped down a long driveway, then hit a tree... Which is still attached to the tan SUV.
The chase continued on foot.
"He took the young child with him, which was his child, and ran through the woods and apparently he went to someone's house he knew because the officer followed him. He went through the front door, left the child, and went out the back door."
So far, there aren't any leads on Farley's whereabouts.
"We tracked him with dogs for several hours last night, but lost his scent, so we're assuming someone probably gave him a ride."
Deputies found two liquor bottles in the vehicle, but Hitchcock says they weren't sure if Farley was under the influence.
Sequatchie Resident Devan Wallace says she's surprised the course of events happened so close to home.
"There's all the time people drinking and driving out there. You just never know what you're going to run into."
Regardless of why Farley fled, Sheriff Hitchcock says it did more harm than good.
"He tore his vehicle up, now he's got felony-evading charges and wreckless child endangerment on him."
Fortunately, the young boy wasn't seriously injured and is staying with family.
Sheriff Hitchcock asks that Farley, or anyone who knows any details of his whereabouts, come forward.
In the meantime, the search continues.
