Soddy Daisy Police Officer Hospitalized After WalMart Arrest

SODDY DAISY, TN, (WDEF)-Soddy Daisy Police were called to this Walmart just after 9am and while attempting to arrest shoplifters, gun shots were exchanged.

Doug Cherry, Soddy Daisy shopper, "Heard the shots and the cars speeding across, that got my attention"

Antony Cuevas of 7315 Haven Hill LN was arrested while two others fled injuring one of the Soddy Daisy officers.

Lieutenant Jeff Gann, Soddy Daisy Police,"The suspect attempted to flee the scene,  he did pin the officer between his vehicle and the patrol car as well"
Employees and customers were in complete shock.

Doug Stapleton, Walmart Employee, "I'm used to people speeding never heard of anyone getting shot out here in the parking lot."

Mike Hamby, Soddy Daisy Shopper, "And I pray that this officer didn't get hurt bad, they said he's on way to hospital".]

Soddy Daisy Police were assisted by Chattanooga and Redbank officers when pursuing the red car that fled the scene.

Lieutenan Gann,"We do have the information of who the parties are and are seeking out the warrants for them and everything"

   We can confirm that East Ridge Police apprehended the male suspect, Michael Rankin and the unnamed female passenger at the East Ridge Tunnel  just a few hours ago.

     Officer Winters has also been released from Erlanger hospital.

Soddy Daisy police told News 12 that Cuevas is complying with the investigation.
