ATLANTA, GA, (WDEF),
TVA members received a thorough questing from the NRC regarding errors in their prediction of flood levels.

Don Jernigan of TVA, "It was an error that we discovered in 2009, that error caused the flood to be a few feet higher than the level we were protected against"

The NRC feel the Fukushima Nuclear disaster in Japan is a reminder of the threats that American nuclear plants must be wary of.

NRC's Victor McCree, "TVA and every other nuclear power plant in the country is evaluating the adequacy of their design against potential maximum rain fall based on current estimates".

The potential for a major storm that could flood our nuclear power plants is one that the NRC and TVA feel they were not previously prepared for.

"Is to require plants to periodically reevaluate the external hazard, due to events like flooding and seismic events, so that they understand and we understand how safe the plants are".

Changing weather patterns and possible flood levels that have not been seen since the 1800s were discussed.

Both plants will receive inspections in the coming weeks to make sure they are ready in case the next storm of the century is just around the corner.
