Distraction occurs when a driver voluntarily diverts attention to something not related to driving that uses the driver's eyes, ears, or hands. There are four types of driver distraction: • Visual -- looking at something other than the road • Auditory -- hearing something not related to driving • Manual -- manipulating something other than the wheel • Cognitive -- thinking abut something other than driving Most distractions involve more than one of these types, with both a sensory -- eyes, ears, or touch -- and a mental component. Visual- would be the trooper in the above link watching everyone else ,or uses his laptop to check vehicles out while rolling Auditory- when he call's them in on his radio While driving giving a description Manual- because he is using his radio while trying to drive and watch others, Cognitive- because he has a 1 track mind while out there so all in all i guess they are right when they say "Most distractions involve more than one of these types" so who gets to write the trooper a ticket? Would also be that same trooper thinking everyone is texting and thinking about writing tickets. He see's someone with their cell out and must now focus on them to determine what they are doing.
