EAST TN, (WDEF)-Kinder Montessori in Cleveland which have been teaching German language classes for more than 6 years.

Brigitta Hoeferle, German Language Teacher,"What we offer is the German language diploma we are the only school anywhere close to this area, the next one is in Atlanta we are on the map now by offering that specific program"

The school caters to adults and families working for Wacker.
The teachers feel having German language skills regardless of whether they want to work for VW gives their students an advantage compared to those with just English language skills.

"Even more important with creating 2000 more work places in our greater area, Hamilton County area and that's not even counting the suppliers that are going to come and more German expats"

Students say it's fun to be able to speak in a language other than English.

"You can communicate like, o my gosh what is she wearing so ya" says student Amelie Hoeferle.

At UTC they say the value of having another language cannot be underestimated as Chattanooga and East Tennessee becomes more diverse"

Dean Valerie Rutledge, UTC, "VW and other companies are not only going to speak German they can come from a lot of different countries, it's the acquisition  of learning a second language, understanding that culture, that's become a whole part of the process not just understand one language and you will be able to learn and work successful here"

VW currently has plants in over 15 countries with nearly a dozen in Germany itself.

There has also been a surge in demand for German classes with children of military families moving back from Germany and hoping to retain the language.
