3-Year-Old Killed In DUI Hit And Run
21 year olds Nick Brumbley, Charlie Womble and 29 year old Rebecca Joy Francis tried buying alcohol but were turned down by the salesman because they appeared intoxicated.
Moments later, police believe their pick up struck Grady Anderson and his grandson, three-year-old Brady Singleton from behind.
"Yes, we feel that alcohol was involved," says Polk County Detective Kevin Cole.
All three suspects have been arrested and charged in the fatal hit and run Tuesday in Cherokee County.
The accident happened on a back road near Highway 68.
Anderson and his grandson were cruising when Brumbley's 1989 pick-up sent them careening off the road.
Anderson and Singleton fell into a creek.
The 4-wheeler landed on top of them.
Family members came to the accident site Wednesday.
"I'm glad they caught them," says Josh Raper, "and I hope they [law enforcement] push it to the limit on them."
"I just think it shouldn't of ever happened," says Charlie Raper, brother-in-law of Anderson.
His family says Anderson suffered severe head and back injuries. He's listed in critical condition at Erlanger Hospital.
Brumbley is charged with driving under the influence, felony hit and run and felony death by motor vehicle.
Brady Singleton
I held brady so many times, looked into his beautiful big eyes and he was the most perfect little boy. My uncle was the man at the bar who decided not to sell them the beer. It happened next door to my uncles house. I have been a friend of Ron and Shirley singleton for many many years. I remember when they started dating. This is a most tragic incident. Brady was such a loving little boy and this has tore that famliy completely apart. They are so devestated. I attended the funeral last night, it took me three hours to get from the parking lot to the casket, I am so thankful for the community support. Brady will live on in the lives of everyone here forever. He was a beautiful and loving child that loved tractors and his family. God bless Ron and Shirley the whole entire TN/NC community is here for you. We love love. AS FOR THE THREE ARRESTED I am glad also that it happened in NC as I have to agree was worried about that also. I stand behind our LOCAL law enforcement here I know all the cops. Its the state that I worry about because of previous murder charges and things. The polk county sherrifs dept are great law enforcement and I stand behind them as THEY are the ones that FOUND the individuals who killed Brady. MUCH LOVE AND SUPPORT goes out to The Andersons and Singletons.
Brady
I am so sorry to hear about little Brady. I had him as a patient when I worked for his Dr in Copperhill. He was always a pleasure to have in the office.
I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT
I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE LOST OF A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE BOY. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYS ARE WITH EACH MEMBER OF HIS FAMILY. DRINKING AND DRIVING ARE VERY WRONG AND THE ACCUSED SHOULD BE PUNISH FOR THE ACCIDENT. BUT WE ARE NEED TO REMEMBER EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY. WE D0 NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SOMETHING SO BAD HAS TO HAPPEN GOD KNOWS AND HE WILL SEE ALL OF BRADY'S FAMILY THRU THIS TIME AND GIVE THEM THE STRENGH TO FACE EACH DAY. THE ACCUSED PEOPLE WILL ALSO HAVE TO ANSWER TO GOD AND LIVE WITH A TRAGIC ACCIDENT THEY CAUSED EVERYDAY. I HOPE ALL THE FAMILIES INVOLVED WILL PUT THEIR FAITH IN GOD. I THINK WE NEED TOUGHER LAWS REGARDING DRINKING AND MAYBE WE WOULD SEE FEWER ACCIDENTS REGARDING ALCOHOL.
mug shots
It really bothers me to see the mug shots. The girl is smiling and one of the guys looks like he could care less. I hope these three learn a lesson from all this, but those pictures make me think that's unlikely.
It was never ment to happen..
I just want to say how sorry I am to the Singlton family. I know how hard this must be for all of you. But remember..God will help you thru all of this, if you just ask him to.
You will all be in my prays & my familys prayers as well.
Little Brady
I can't imagine what this family is going through. If people had to pay for their actions less of this would be happening. At least North Carolina will have them and not Polk Co. If Polk Co. had them, they might get as much as a slap on the hand.
Don't be so sure about NC
Don't be so sure about NC having them. Rebecca Francis has been arrested several times for different charges; and you see she's still our here on the streets. If the court system would crack down, and stop slapping hands, she might have been in jail. Instead of out here to cause this acident. I was upset to here this, but to see the mug shots and she's smiling. They need to dig a whole and through them into. I agree people like this is whats wrong with the world and we let them get away with it. Go back to public hanging and see how much crime goes down. (and so that no one things that the "hanging" is racial, plenty of white people have been hung and this is whites that we talking about.)
i am so sorry

Brady you touch my life and
Brady you touch my life and you will always live in my heart. Daycare will never be the same with out you there. I know Jesus is going to take good care of you little buddy.
3 year old killed in felony hit and run
At least they were denied purchase at the last store. I'm not sure why people are so careless with the lives of others.
The grandfather was probably having a great time with the little boy. My husband does this same kind of thing.
However, it isn't a good idea to have your atv equipment on a public road due to the danger.
My husband takes the kids but only on our property or on off road trails. There is still danger but at least you aren't likely to have to deal with drunks.
Baby Brady
This is so tragic, I wish we had a system that when people do things like this we could just hang them in the town square. They want suffer enough for what they have done. I pray for Brady's family.
Un-called for!
Number one they should have not been drinking and drivein! Number two they are insane for wantin to buy more beer. Three, they are sooooo very sorry for hitting those inocent people and then have the guts to run off and leave them behind! I believe they everyone should get hung!!!!!!!!

Condolences to the Singletons
We were having breakfast in a hotel in Chattanooga when we met Ron and Shirley. They said that they were on their way to Erlanger to visit her father, and told us about the accident. I found out more details about the accident on the 'Net. My heart goes out to the Singleton and Anderson families. I wish you peace and healing during this difficult time. May Grady make a full recovery. This is an utterly senseless tragedy all the way around, not only for Brady and Grady and their families but for the people in the car that hit them. They will have to live with what they did the rest of their lives, not to mention doing hard time for their crimes. It goes to show that the decisions one makes can have far-reaching consequences, not only for yourself but for others as well.
